Beyond the Stereotype: Career Pathways Program

Redefine What is Possible. Shape Your Future.

Welcome to Beyond the Stereotype, an inspiring career pathway initiative designed specifically for Black high school students within the Simcoe County District School Board (SCDSB).

Hosted at the Georgian College Barrie Campus in partnership with The Black Fathers Alliance (TBFA), this program is dedicated to dismantling conventional narratives. By connecting students with exceptional Black professionals thriving in unique, non-stereotypical fields, we aim to open doors to limitless career possibilities.

"As fathers, we hold the role of mentor to our children very close to our hearts and approach it with great care. This deep commitment to our youth is precisely why The Black Fathers Alliance has established a collaborative partnership with the Simcoe County District School Board to curate an ecosystem of excellence..."

— Daniel Carter, Founder of The Black Fathers Alliance

Program Structure & Event Days

To give students the most relevant experience possible, the program is divided into two age-specific standalone events:

Senior Day (Grades 11 & 12)  Oct. 27, 2026

  • Focus: Mentorship & Actionable Next Steps
  • How it Works: The day kicks off with a main-stage professional panel.      Afterward, students transition to intimate, small-group roundtable      rotations where they receive direct, personal guidance and tactical      networking insights from mentors.

Junior Day (Grades 9 & 10) March 9, 2027

  • Focus: Career Exposure & Discovery
  • How it Works: Tailored for students just starting high school, this day      features an interactive career-discovery game. Students actively cross-examine mentors, decipher clues to solve professional portfolios, and explore alternative paths in a fun, low-pressure setting.

Unlock Your Future. On Your Terms.
